Learning About the History

A fabulous day in Provence, starting with a French breakfast of yogurt, breads, fruit, and of course fresh baked pastries for our alumni travelers! Thankfully the jet lag is wearing off and our group has more energy.

At 9:00 am we attended our first “class” on the history of the Provence region starting with the Greeks' inhabitation of the region and then the Romans. We then took a walking tour of the city to see those influences on the architecture. Lunch celebrated the Greek and Roman historical beginnings with a tapas style meal. The afternoon was on our own with a few groups going to the Musee Granet to view nine paintings by artist Paul Cezanne. Dinner will be out at a local restaurant.

By last night all of the members of the alumni group had safely arrived. For some, this was their first trip abroad and with the alumni group, while others have been on all three of the AHI lead trips to Tuscany, Ireland, and now Provence. When these vacationers were asked about the next alumni trip, many wanted to visit Paris, Switzerland, or China.

Tomorrow, a tour of the Luberon, the picturesque mountain region.

  1. The 2006 film "A Good Year" was filmed in the Luberon region-very picturesque. Looking forward to your next post.
